Because You Are Mine

The Power of Testimony

As I reflected on our testimonies, something stood out to me: Valyncia and I have different stories. We have different circumstances, wounds, struggles, and journeys. Yet, by the grace of God, we came to the same conclusion:

God is faithful. God is able. God saves. God changes hearts.

This realization matters to me. It reminds me that God is not limited by the details of our stories. He is not confused by our past, intimidated by our present, or unable to reach into the places that feel too far gone.

The Unchanging Nature of God

Hebrews 13:8 says:

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.”

This means the same God who saved then is still saving now. The same God who healed then is still healing now. The same God who delivered then is still delivering now.

This testimony reminded me of something I have been pondering lately: the love of the Father. It answers our deepest insecurities with one simple truth:

“Because you are Mine.”

Not just the phrase, “God loves you.” Many of us have heard that before. Some of us have said it to others. Some of us have even believed it in our minds while struggling to receive it in the deepest places of our hearts.

Understanding God's Love

What happens when you ask God, “Why do You love me?”

For some, that question may not come up often. A child who has been nurtured and cared for may not feel the need to ask their parent, “Why do you love me?” Love is simply part of the atmosphere. It is known, assumed, and lived in.

But for others, especially those who grew up around chaos, abandonment, or emotional unsafety, love can feel like something that needs an explanation. We may wonder what makes us lovable. We may look for proof. We may quietly ask, “What is it about me that makes You stay?”

I believe the Father’s answer is simple, yet profound:

“Because you are Mine.”

That answer is enough.

Not because I fully understand it. Not because the mystery disappears. Not because I will never again wonder at the magnitude of His holiness, mercy, and love. But because His love begins in who He is, not in what I have done.

The Nature of God's Love

God does not love me because I performed well enough.

He does not love me because I finally got myself together.

He does not love me because I am useful, impressive, stable, or easy to deal with.

He loves because He is love.

And He loves His children because they are His.

There is something deeply healing about letting that be enough.

The Brokenness of Our World

We live in a world broken by sin. What God created good has been fractured. Relationships have been wounded. Trust has been broken. Families have been damaged. People have hurt people. Many of us carry those wounds into our understanding of God.

But God is not the One who broke my trust.

He is the One who restores it.

He is not like the broken systems, homes, or relationships that may have shaped our understanding of love. He is holy. He is perfect. He is Father. He is Creator. He is Redeemer. He sees all the places where love was mishandled, and He still draws near.

God's Unchanging Character

Because He does not change, there is no situation too dark for Him to enter. No past too messy for Him to redeem. No present circumstance too complicated for Him to work in. No heart too hardened for Him to soften.

Malachi 3:6 says:

“For I the LORD do not change.”

This is good news. If God is the same, then His mercy is still mercy. His power is still power. His love is still love. His salvation is still available.

Sometimes I think we keep asking, “Why do You love me?” because we are still looking for the catch.

But the invitation of God is not merely to keep questioning whether His love is real. The invitation is to rest in the truth that it is.

Seeking Deeper Understanding

At some point, we have to stop trying to solve the mystery of why God loves us and begin seeking to know the God who does.

That does not mean we will never ask again. There may be moments in worship, prayer, suffering, or awe where the question rises up again: “Lord, why are You so good to me?” His holiness can feel overwhelming. His mercy can feel too beautiful to comprehend. His nearness can leave us undone.

But even then, I can return to the Father’s answer:

“Because you are Mine.”

From that place, the question changes.

It is no longer, “Am I loved?”

It becomes, “Who is this God who loves me like this?”

Deepening Our Relationship with God

That is where relationship deepens.

That is where we move from knowing facts about God to knowing Him personally and experientially. Not just hearing that He is faithful, but walking with Him and discovering His faithfulness. Not just reading that He is good, but tasting and seeing that He is good. Not just saying He is Father, but learning to live as His child.

Deep calls unto deep.

The love of the Father is not an idea to admire from a distance. It is a reality to receive, abide in, and be transformed by.

Our Unique Testimonies

My testimony and Valyncia’s testimony are not identical, but they point to the same unchanging God. If He met us in our stories, He can meet you in yours.

So if you have found yourself asking, “God, why do You love me?” maybe today you do not need a long explanation.

Maybe today, you need to hear the Father say:

“Because you are Mine.”

And maybe that is where healing begins. Not in understanding every “why,” but in trusting the One who has already answered.

You are loved by God.

You are seen by God.

You are invited to know Him more deeply.

And through Jesus Christ, you can be saved from whatever you are facing.

His love is not running out.

It is inexhaustible.

• Have I been asking God, “Why do You love me?” from a place of wonder, fear, or insecurity?

Short Prayer

Father, help me receive Your love without suspicion, striving, or fear. Heal the places in me where love was mishandled, misunderstood, or withheld. Teach me to rest in the truth that I belong to You. Let my heart move from asking if I am loved to seeking to know You more deeply. In Jesus’ name, amen.

• Isaiah 43:1 — “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.”

• Romans 5:8 — God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

If you do not know Jesus, you do not have to clean yourself up before coming to Him. He is able to save, heal, restore, and make you new. Call on Him. Surrender to Him. The same God who met us in our stories can meet you in yours.
