Have You Ever Wondered If Your Life Really Matters?

Have you ever reached the end of a long day and asked yourself, "Did anything I did today really matter?"

Maybe you spent your day working, caring for your family, serving at church, studying, running errands, or simply trying to make it through another difficult day. The world often tells us that our worth is measured by success, wealth, popularity, or accomplishments. If that's true, it's easy to feel like we're never doing enough.

But the Bible tells a very different story.

According to Scripture, your greatest purpose isn't to become famous, wealthy, or admired by others.

Your greatest purpose is to glorify God.

That truth changes everything.

It changes how we work.

It changes how we love.

It changes how we serve.

It even changes how we see ordinary moments.

Living for God's glory isn't reserved for pastors, missionaries, or ministry leaders. It is the calling of every follower of Jesus Christ.

So what does that actually mean?

Let's discover together.

What Does It Mean to Glorify God?

When we hear the phrase "glorify God," it can sound like something reserved for church services or worship music.

But glorifying God is much bigger than singing songs on Sunday morning.

To glorify God means to honor Him, reflect His character, and point others to His greatness through the way we live.

We cannot make God more glorious than He already is.

He is already perfectly holy.

Perfectly loving.

Perfectly righteous.

Perfectly worthy of worship.

Instead, our lives become mirrors that reflect His glory to the world around us.

Jesus explained it this way:

"Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven." (Matthew 5:16)

When people see Christ changing our hearts, our priorities, and our actions, they are ultimately pointed toward Him—not us.

We Were Created for God's Glory

Many people spend their lives searching for purpose.

The answer isn't hidden.

God has already revealed it.

Isaiah writes:

"...everyone who is called by My name, whom I created for My glory..." (Isaiah 43:7)

You were not created by accident.

You were not created without purpose.

God intentionally created you to know Him, love Him, worship Him, and reflect His glory.

Sin distorted that purpose.

Instead of living for God, humanity began living for itself.

We chase success.

We chase comfort.

We chase approval.

We chase recognition.

But none of those things were ever meant to satisfy our hearts.

Only God can do that.

Jesus Restores Our Purpose

The good news of the Gospel is not simply that our sins are forgiven.

The Gospel also restores us to the purpose for which we were created.

Through His death and resurrection, Jesus reconciles us to God and gives us new life.

Paul reminds believers:

"For to me, to live is Christ..." (Philippians 1:21)

Our lives are no longer centered on ourselves.

They are centered on Christ.

Every day becomes another opportunity to know Him, serve Him, and reflect His glory.

Living for God's Glory Isn't Just for Sundays

One of the biggest misconceptions about Christianity is that glorifying God only happens during church services.

Scripture teaches something much greater.

Paul writes:

"So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God." (1 Corinthians 10:31)

Notice the words:

Whatever you do.

That includes...

  • Going to work.

  • Raising children.

  • Studying for school.

  • Serving your community.

  • Encouraging a friend.

  • Caring for a loved one.

  • Managing your finances.

  • Using your gifts.

  • Spending time online.

Even the ordinary moments of life become acts of worship when they are surrendered to Christ.

There are no "small" moments in the Christian life.

God can use every moment for His glory.

What Keeps Us From Living for God's Glory?

If living for God's glory is our purpose, why do we struggle?

Because our hearts are constantly pulled in different directions.

Sometimes we seek the approval of people more than the approval of God.

Sometimes we become distracted by comfort or success.

Sometimes pride convinces us that life is about building our own kingdom instead of God's Kingdom.

Other times fear keeps us from obeying what God has clearly called us to do.

Every one of us wrestles with these things.

The answer isn't trying harder.

The answer is continually surrendering our hearts to Christ.

Seven Practical Ways to Glorify God Every Day

1. Spend Time With God

Healthy relationships require time.

Spend time reading Scripture.

Pray consistently.

Listen as you seek God's wisdom.

The more we know Him, the more our lives begin reflecting Him.

2. Obey God's Word

Knowledge without obedience doesn't glorify God.

Jesus said,

"If you love Me, keep My commandments." (John 14:15)

Faith grows as we obey Him.

3. Love People Well

Jesus summarized the greatest commandments:

Love God.

Love your neighbor.

Every act of kindness...

Every moment of forgiveness...

Every opportunity to serve...

Reflects God's heart to the world.

4. Use Your Gifts Faithfully

God has entrusted every believer with unique gifts, abilities, experiences, and opportunities.

They weren't given simply for personal success.

They were given to build up others and glorify God.

Ask yourself:

"How can I use what God has given me to serve someone today?"

5. Share the Gospel

One of the greatest ways we glorify God is by pointing people to Jesus.

The Gospel is too good to keep to ourselves.

Whether it's through conversations, acts of kindness, or simply living faithfully before others, every believer has been entrusted with sharing the hope of Christ.

6. Trust God During Difficult Seasons

It's easy to glorify God when life is going well.

Faith often shines brightest during hardship.

When we continue trusting God through uncertainty, loss, disappointment, or suffering, we testify that He is worthy of our trust.

7. Give God the Credit

When good things happen...

Give thanks.

When doors open...

Praise Him.

When others compliment you...

Redirect the glory back to God.

Everything we have comes from Him.

What If You've Failed?

Maybe you're reading this and thinking...

"I've spent years living for myself."

"I've made too many mistakes."

"I've wasted opportunities."

The Gospel is good news precisely because Jesus came for sinners.

Peter failed.

Paul persecuted Christians.

The prodigal son wasted everything.

Yet God's grace restored them.

His grace can restore you too.

No matter what your past looks like, today is a new opportunity to live for His glory.

God is not finished with you.

At Go Reach Ministries, our mission is simple:

Reaching the World

When we live for God's glory, people notice something different.

Our lives become opportunities to point others to Jesus through our words, our actions, and our love.

Equipping Disciples

Following Jesus is a lifelong journey.

Living for God's glory isn't a one-time decision—it's a daily commitment.

As we continue growing in God's Word, He shapes our hearts to look more like Christ and equips us to faithfully serve Him wherever He leads.

Reflection Questions

Take a few moments to prayerfully consider these questions:

  • What area of my life is most difficult to surrender to God?

  • Am I living for God's glory or my own?

  • How can I intentionally glorify God in my daily routine this week?

  • Is there someone God is calling me to encourage or share the Gospel with?

  • What is one step of obedience I can take today?

A Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for creating me with purpose and for redeeming me through Jesus Christ. Forgive me for the times I've lived for myself instead of for Your glory. Help me to surrender every area of my life to You—my time, my gifts, my relationships, my work, and my future.

Teach me to faithfully follow Christ each day and to reflect Your love wherever You place me. Use my life to point others to Jesus, and help me trust You even when the path ahead is uncertain.

May everything I do bring honor and glory to Your name.

In Jesus' name,

Amen.

This Week's Challenge

This week, before you begin each day, pray this simple prayer:

"Lord, help me glorify You in everything I do today."

Then ask yourself throughout the day:

  • Does this honor Christ?

  • Does this reflect His love?

  • Does this point people toward Him?

You may be surprised how that one prayer changes the way you live.
