It always amazes me when I think about how far God has brought me from the young, shy, and timid woman I used to be.
There was a time when hearing the words, “Go, stand, and speak…” would have felt impossible. I do not think I would have responded in the way that was fitting for a follower of Christ. I was shy. I was uncertain. I questioned whether I truly understood the Gospel enough to proclaim it to someone else.
That question alone kept me silent for years.
“Do I know enough?”
“Can I explain the Gospel correctly?”
“What if someone asks me something I cannot answer?”
Those questions paralyzed me. Instead of seeing myself as someone God could use, I saw all the reasons why I was not qualified. Because of that fear, there were countless opportunities where I did not share my faith in Christ with others.
Looking back now, I realize something important: God was not waiting for me to become perfect before He called me to speak. He was inviting me to trust Him.
When Fear Keeps Us Silent
You could talk about how many believers know Jesus but hesitate to share Him because they feel unqualified. Then transition into Acts 5:20:
“Go, stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life.”
The beautiful connection is that the apostles were not bold because they had confidence in themselves — they were bold because they had confidence in the One who sent them.
Share Your Faith Without Fear
God Calls Us to Go
The first word in Acts 5:20 is simple:
Go.
God’s work has always involved movement.
Throughout Scripture, God calls people to step outside of what is familiar:
Abraham had to leave what he knew.
Moses had to return to Egypt.
The disciples had to leave their nets.
The apostles had to take the Gospel beyond Jerusalem.
God often works through people who are willing to move when He says move.
Sometimes we wait for the perfect opportunity. We wait until we feel qualified. We wait until fear disappears.
But obedience rarely begins with having everything figured out.
It begins with saying:
“Lord, I am willing.”
God may be calling you to go into a conversation, a relationship, a workplace, a community, or a situation where someone needs to hear the hope of Jesus.
The question is not always, “Am I ready?”
The question is:
“Am I willing to obey?”
God Calls Us to Stand
The apostles were not only told to go.
They were told to stand.
Standing represents courage, conviction, and faithfulness.
To stand means refusing to move away from what God has called you to do simply because it becomes difficult.
Many believers struggle with speaking about their faith because of fear:
What will people think?
What if someone disagrees?
What if I do not say the right thing?
What if I am rejected?
Those fears are real.
But Acts 5 reminds us that courage does not come from having no fear. Courage comes from trusting God more than we trust our fear.
The apostles stood because they understood something important:
The message they carried was bigger than the opposition they faced.
God Calls Us to Speak
The final part of Acts 5:20 says:
“Speak… all the words of this life.”
Notice what they were commanded to speak.
Not opinions.
Not arguments.
Not their own greatness.
They were commanded to speak the words of life.
The Gospel is a message of life because Jesus brings:
forgiveness for sin
hope for the broken
freedom for the captive
peace for the anxious
restoration for those who feel lost
There are people around us searching for answers. They may not always say it openly, but many people are looking for hope.
God has entrusted believers with a message that can change lives.
Don’t Let Fear Silence Your Faith
One of the greatest battles believers face is the temptation to remain silent.
Sometimes silence feels safer.
It feels easier not to mention Jesus.
It feels easier not to share what God has done.
But silence can keep someone from hearing the very message they need.
Acts 5:20 challenges us to ask:
Have I allowed fear to make me quiet when God has called me to speak?
God is not asking us to be perfect speakers.
He is asking us to be faithful witnesses.
You do not need every answer.
You do not need a platform.
You do not need a title.
You simply need a willing heart.
God can use your testimony. God can use your obedience. God can use your voice.
The Words of Life Still Matter Today
The world is filled with messages competing for attention.
People hear messages about success, identity, money, power, and acceptance every day.
But the message of Jesus remains the message of life.
Acts 5:20 reminds us that the Gospel is still worth sharing. Share your faith without fear because someone needs encouragement today.
Someone needs forgiveness today. Someone needs hope today.
Someone needs to know that Jesus sees them, loves them, and is calling them.
The question is:
Will we go? Will we stand? Will we speak?

Where is God asking you to step out in obedience?
What fears have made you hesitant to speak about your faith?
Who in your life needs to hear the words of life that God has given you?
Prayer
Lord, give me courage to obey when You call me to go, stand, and speak. Remove the fear that keeps me silent and help me faithfully share the hope of Jesus with others. Give me wisdom, humility, and boldness to represent You well. Use my life and my voice for Your glory. Amen.
Final Thought
Acts 5:20 is not just a command given to the apostles thousands of years ago.
It is a reminder for every believer today:
God still sends people who are willing to stand. God still uses voices that are willing to speak. God still calls us to share the words of life.
Go. Stand. Speak.
